Berlin: Lecture on Jazz, Dance, Ragtime and Cakewalk

Dr. Bernd Hoffmann of the WDR will hold a guest lecture at „Theaterwissenschaftliches Institut“ (Department of Drama and Theatre) of the FU Berlin this week.
On Friday, June 21, he will be present at the regular class of Dr. Stephanie Schroedter, visiting Professor at FU Berlin, Department of Drama and Theatre.

Dr. Hoffmann is a jazz journalist, writer, jazz researcher and responsible for many jazz broadcasts, portraits and music features with WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk).
He is also the founder of radio jazz research,  an association or writers, journalists, teachers and jazz fans who devote their time and work to the representation, research and documentation of jazz in the media.
Dr. Hoffmann in his lecture will focus on early forms of African-American dance such as the cakewalk and the effect of early American jazz-related music as ragtime.

Time: 10 a.m. sharp (yes, that’s early), in the auditorium at Grunewaldstr. 35, 12165 Berlin (Schöneberg). No admission.
